Twitter to Introduce Encrypted DMs and New Features

Twitter, the social media giant, is set to roll out some new features that include encrypted direct messages (DMs) and the ability to reply to specific messages, according to Tuesday evening tweets from the company and owner Elon Musk. The new features are expected to go live on Wednesday.

In a tweet from the company’s support account, Twitter said users can now reply to specific messages and react to messages with any reaction instead of a limited few. The features are accessible by pressing and holding on a specific message.

Musk also announced that Twitter is set to introduce encrypted DMs, a feature he previously noted was a priority for the platform. The first version of the feature is expected to be released soon, with Musk stating that it will “grow in sophistication” at a rapid rate. Musk assured users that even if someone held a gun to his head, he would not be able to see their DMs.

In addition to encrypted DMs, Musk announced that Twitter will soon allow users to make voice and video calls from their handles to anyone on the platform. The feature is expected to provide users with a new way to communicate with others around the world without having to share their phone number.

The release of encrypted DMs is highly anticipated, and users are looking forward to the added security and privacy the feature will provide. However, some remain skeptical and are waiting for the feature to be officially released before celebrating.
